Is there a way to track what a wine, say a 1997 brunello is worth today?

There is no distinct guide, like the Blue Book for cars, but there are web sites that you can use to at least look at what merchants are charging and estimate the value of your collection that way.

Try looking up the price at a online wine store like:

http://www.wine.com/default.asp...

Then try and sell on Ebay or some auction site.

If you bought the wine, why not enjoy it? Or they make great gifts...
