Ever had a REAL mint julep?
I went for lunch with my girlfriend to a Cheesecake Factory, and the food was great, but I've really been into trying different drinks lately and mixing some for friends at home.... I'd never had a mint julep before, so I ordered one, and I think the mint really overpowered everything, and I usually like mint... but I was not impressed. Then I was down at the cottage on the lake, and a lady there said she was a big fan of mojitos, so I bought the fixings to make them for people, and they were pretty good... well, being a bourbon fan, I thought I would try to make myself another mint julep, and it actually was not bad. I'm really starting to feel that if you want an authentic cocktail, you are so much better off making it yourself from scratch. I think I'll open a bar in my neighborhood.

I've only ever had ONE good mint julep at a restaurant, and it was at the Van Dyke Cafe on South Beach. they have Brazilian jazz upstairs on the weekends and they make great mint julep's, mojitos and caparinas (SP).
