Question:

How does a new bartender offer a suggestions based on the customer's mood.?

What sort of drinks might be served with what moods?

Answers:
it really depends on the person. what's good for one, may be bad for another. if you're new at bartending, just give it time. you will start to learn how to read people, and what kinds of drinks they like. it just comes with time and experience.

Been a bartender for 20 years. I usually ask what TYPE of drink they are in the mood for.... Like fruity, Strong, Shot, Fancy, frozen etc etc then if they say Whatever I will just come up with something and let them have it. I usually tell them if they dont like it after the first drink I wont make them pay for it. I think I have only had one snooty woman tell me she wanted something different.

you should ask if they like something fruity, something strong, something smooth -- when i go out and can't decide what to get, that is what bartenders always ask me and it makes it easier for them to make me a drink.

Experience. An experienced bartender can come up with almost anything.

Just give him what they ask for, If I was in a bad mood and you gave me something that I did't ask for I would flip out.

it depends on if it's a guy or a girl....
GUY
blah=beer
mad=a shot of Quervo Black
happy/fun=Jack and Coke
sad=the strongest thing you got

GIRL
blah=beer (for wuss ladies Smirnoff)
mad=shot of Segrams VO
happy/fun=vodka and red bull
sad=any red wine

If you have to depend on the bartender to tell you what you want, you are either a lightweight who should practice at home or you are whiny and high-maintenance. As a bartender, I'd say they have two choices: take a seat and order for yourself or hit the door and walk around until you can decide. Bartenders are usually too busy to play the 'guessing game' with customers and it is extremely inconsiderate to make others wait while you make up you mind. When in doubt, quit your sniveling and drink a damned beer!
