no you cannot use lemon juice or simple syrup to replace triple sec.. triple sec is nowhere near those categories. if you dont have triple sec you can use
Cointreau
grandmarnei "sp"
blue curacao

Triple sec by itself tastes like an orange syrup with a bite. If you took dayquil with an orange flavor you would have the same taste.

Triple sec is orange liqueur. It's similar to other orange liqueurs but more sweet. By itself it tastes like hard orange candy soaked in vodka. The other orange liquors that are similar are called cointreau and grand marnier.

If I make a margarita and need a shot of orange flavor, I add orange juice and I think I actually like it better in my drinks than the orange liqueur. It makes it fresher tasting. It can be the same strength, you just make up the difference in tequila if you want it that strong.

If you wish to do that to make your own recipe...go ahead. It will totally change the flavor of whatever drink you are making that requires triple sec, being that triple sec has an orange flavor.
