Can someone under 18 legally drink in a pub if they have a meal with adults?!

Question:

Can someone under 18 legally drink in a pub if they have a meal with adults?

Answers:
you can legally drink with a meal in the uk at 16yrs old. but the alcohol must be purchased by someone 18 or over.

NO

Not in the US

No

No- Not is US. But most countries it's 18 and up.

No. They can be in the pub with their parents, but cannot be served alcohol. The legal age to drink alcohol is 18 years.

No. They can be *in* a pub, legally, which they couldn't be otherwise...

no

no

In the UK, if you are 16 or over, you are supposed to be allowed wine or beer with a meal - but not spirits.
I think that is only in places classed as restaurants (i.e. not just pubs that serve food) - I think there's a distinction in their licenses. In such places, you're not supposed to need adults with you either.
Cheers

In England, yes, in America, no.

no, because that is still breaking the law if your under 18...
now if you were of legal age..That would be fine.

no. they can enter the pub but not drink and only if your having a meal.

A few months ago, I went to a steak house in Wisconsin, and they offered my dad and I a drink. We looked at her like she was crazy. She then went on to explain that in Wisconsin, if you are with your parent, you can drink. BTW, we are from Illinois so we had no idea that his law existed. To answer your question: Yes in certain states under the certain conditions, you can.

In the UK yes. anyone over the age of 14 may have a drink if they are having a meal with their parents/guardian (not just any adult). So, mum gets you a glass of wine with your steak, OK, some random adult buys you 18 baccardi breezers to have with your cheese and onion crisps, not OK.

In Germany.

Yes, in the UK. An over 18 has to be present and pay for the meal and the child so to speak has to be over 14. They are allowed one unit of alcohol. Another useful fact is that anyone over the age of 5 can drink alcohol in their home. Bizarre but that's what they teach us in school (Citizenship lessons).

It is also an offence for a person under 18 years to consume alcohol on licensed premises. but someone under 18 can run a pub, and serve it if they have supervision from an adult. Don't ask me why.

Come to Alberta, Canada and you can drink at any bar, lounge pub or restaraunt.

Young people aged 16 or 17 can drink beer, wine or cider with a meal if it is bought by an adult and they are accompanied by an adult.

It is illegal for this age group to drink spirits in pubs even with a meal

Children under 16 can go anywhere in a pub as long as they are supervised by an adult, but cannot have any alcoholic drinks.

However some premises may be subject to licensing conditions preventing them from entering, for example pubs which have experienced problems with underage drinking

It is legal for adults to buy alcohol for children over four to drink in the home

It is against the law for someone under the age of twenty-one to drink alcohol in the US. It doesn't matter who you're with.

if the 'pub' has a restaurant license at 14 you can drink alcohol with a meal but not spirits ,only wine beer and perries, including cider. At 16 you may purchase alcohol ,again not spirits but only if table served. To buy alcohol at a bar you MUST be 18. (uk)

Bottom line: Yes in England, Wales & Scilly Isles. but hey there is a lot of guessing and wrong information being given on here with people mixing up old rules and regulations. The Licensing Act 2003 allows a 16 or 17 yr old person to drink beer, wine or cider PROVIDED THAT the drink is purchased by an adult i.e over 18 AND the 16 / 17 yr old is having a proper 'table ' ie. substantial, meal AND the adult, ie. an over 18 STAYS and supervises the drinking and meal consumption. The adult does not themselves have to have a drink or a meal.
As for some of the other information various people have contributed. There are no longer any situations where other under 18yr olds can drink in licensed premises, references to 14 yr olds have changed, there are no longer separate restaurant licences. The appropriate age to consider about being in licensed premises is now 16yrs. Unaccompanied under 16yrs CAN be in premises with the managements permission provided alcohol is not the main feature at the time but they can't be in under16 on their own between midnight & 5.00 a.m. If they are under 16 and with an adult, ie. over 18 there is no prohibition at any time.
The age limit for very young children in the home is that you can not legally give any alcohol to a person UNDER 5yr except for medicinal purposes or on doctors orders.
Added later:
Sects 149 & 150 LA 2003 - ( deals with the rules about ages for drinking alcohol, and 16 / 17 yr olds limited ability to drink but not buy when having meals etc.)
Sect 145 LA 2003 - ( deals with the under / over 16 yr old accompanied / unaccompanied issues )

this goes to show how much confusion there is with the law>

YES!!!! YOU CAN DRINK ALCOHOL WITH A MEAL WITH ADULTS IF YOU ARE OVER 16 YEARS OF AGE, JUST AS LONG AS SOMEONE 18 OR OVER PURCHASES IT OR YOU!!!

IT IS LEGAL!!!!

XX

Wots ur poison?
i dnt kno if u can drink alcohol in a pub at 16 but if ur at home u can start drinkin at the age of 5 or something rediculous lik that

no

only soft drinks

If someone 18 or over buys the alcohol, then at 16 you can have a drink with the meal.
