I'm pretty sure a case is an 18-pack. Although I remember someone had an 18-pack of 16-ounce beers (instead of 12 ounce) and they called it a case.

The standard case is 24 of anything. Beer also. However Foxhead Beer makes their cases of 28 and I believe I heard somewhere that a newer manufacturer is now putting 30 bottles in his cases. Look up beer on the net and I will bet there will be tons of neat things to learn about it there. It is old and interesting believe it or not.
