If so, how much is it safe to drink - lager especially

It most definetly is. Go on line, find a BAC calculator that will allow you to enter any number of drinks , play with the numbers for a while and any combination of sex, weight, alcohol type, number of drinks and the time that it to drink them that results in a BAC of over .40 is a fatal combination.
I'm a 260 lb male , If I knock off 17 shots of Jameson in an hour [ 1 bottle ] I will have a BAC of .29 .I should be close to unconscious
Reduce my bodyweight to the super buff 200 lbs of when I was 18 yo and my BAC is .38-I'm dead
