I know nothing about wine except white goes with seafood and red goes with meat...trying to make a romantic home cooked dinner and I am looking for some suggestions on where to start with wine shopping or some good bottles?

One of the most popular wines going seems to be Beringer White Zinfandel. I work part-time in a bar & we sell more of that than all other wines together.
You can pair it with most anything food-wise, and it's a good middle-of-the-road / starter wine; not too sweet & not too acidic.
There are also white merlots & white cabernets, right along similar lines as the white zinfandel... if you go with a brand like Beringer, if it turns out you don't really care for it, you're not out much... they run in the neighborhood of $5 per bottle at liquor stores.
