Alcoholism!!!?

If you have truly decided you are an alcoholic how do you quit if you cannot afford counseling through some kind of govt agency? And how do you keep your relatives from judging you if you are trying to get help to quit. This includes running you down for the problem. I don't like being called a drunk!!! My relatives don't realize it as a desease. They just call me a drunk. Can anyone help me???

first of all mate your on the first step, admitting you have a drinking problem is the start to ending your alcoholism.. i think that the AA meetings are great, but not just them just remember theirs always a friend out their who can help you out with this!! talk to your family about it and if they don't realize or understand well make them understand.. tell them the problems you suffer and explain what it does for you whatever reason.. e.g enjoyment, depression, problems!! they will understand in time .. just having that friend can make all the difference, being able to talk to someone and confide in!! like all addictions mate they are hard to come off, look to just reduce your drink slowly if you cant go cold turkey. just believe in yourself and seek the help and advice of friends who want to help its out there!!
