Why do people drink blended whiskey?
Single barrel and single malt whiskeys are far superior and often in the same price range.

They're not superior...just different.
The bottom line is that if you like it, drink it. Blends allow for consistency from one year to another. Single barrels and single malts are like wines...one year can be better than another. Besides, not everybody is as discerning and they just want something simple and consistent. There *are* good blends out there. If that's not your taste, then so be it. That leaves more single malts for those of us who appreciate it.
