Answers:
I actually watched this show on FoodTV with a lady that reviews wines. I went and bought one of her recommendations and it was awesome.
Robert Mondavi - Private Selection
Pinot Noir
Its about $8-10 dollars.
Its good with food and by itself.
Cheers,

Try the Montes Alpha 2004 vintage Cabernet. It has a nice subtle sweetness and is silky almost. Really affordable price too; can find at Costco if your local store carries wines.

I just know local ones...sorry.

Reunite Lambrusco

Valpolicella
Chianti
Rioja
Beaujolais Villages
Pinot Noir
Grenache
Barbera
All of these wines would fit what you are looking for.
Beaujolais uses the Gamay grape.
This is a great wine for introducing non wine drinks to red wine.
Then go to a Burgundy wine such as Pinot Noir.
Pinot Noir is a Fresh Fruit /Easy Drinking- Fruit forward wine.

Good luck and Enjoy

P.S. Rose are very hot right now. Don't mix them up with white zin. Rose is much better and much higher quality.
They should have strawberry and cherry hints. Very refreshing for lunch.

Benton Lane pinot noir, Silver Oak Cabernet, Penfolds Bin389 Shiraz

this is a very inexpensive but good red wine...Livingston Cellars Red Rose
