Conscientious vegan

I saw him eating a pork chop last Thursday....

Would you drink the ale of a carnivore?

I think it is Irish...

Yes its Vegan as are most beers and ales.
there is no animal products used in beer as most are yeast, water barley and hopps.

Sounds vegan

If you are a strict vegan, you should not drink alcohol at all.

Alcohol is a byproduct of the action of yeast which happen to be single celled animals. As part of the fermentation process, yeast eat sugar and excrete alcohol. Hence alcohol is an animal product and vegans should not consume it.

So if you drink beer, you might as well use it to wash down a Pizza with Italian Sausage, Canadian Bacon, and lots of cheese.

Doc Hudson

This is tricky as It depends how strickly you interpret the term vegan. All beer uses yeast in its processing. Yeast being a living animal organism could be concidered off of a vegan diet. But then so would breads that rise. So unless you fit into the type that concider this off limit, drink up. You picked my Favorite, or next to favorite beer. Made by Guiness and actually the oldest brewery that has been in constant operations, Smithwicks has a long petigree. It has been in operation and producing this beer concistantly since the 1700's.

Certain beers use clarifiers that contain crustaceans (shell fish). Others actually use lactose. So not all beers are vegan.

I don't think that Smithwicks uses either of these.
