What gives Yuengling beer that CRISP SPICE taste?!

Question:

What gives Yuengling beer that CRISP SPICE taste?

it's so yummy. =)

Answers:

If it is not a specialty beer with added spices then it is either the yeast or hops.

Some yeast strains produce spicy notes in beer. Wheat beers in Germany have a clove like note imparted to it by the yeast.

Some hops especially the "noble" varieties have a spice-like character to them. Hallertau from Germany is one such hop. Another great hop from Germany is Tettnanger. Another is Saaz or Zatec Red from the Czech republic. Probably the most prized hop in the world. All are used in good continental lagers. Anheuser Busch also uses german Hallertau hops in Budweiser and other beers of theirs. One of several reasons I laugh at people that knock Bud. It tells me they know little about beer and even less about Budweiser.
The german varieties are now grown is the USA.

Yet another hop, this one American is Cascade. It is known for a citrus & spice note and the likely hop in your beer.

So, it is either the yeast or hops or both giving your beer spiciness.

I just recalled a visit I had to the brewery back in the 90's. I ate at the old style diner down the street before the tour. It was a modernized brewery by then so no big deal. But the the good beer in the basement tasting room was an interesting experience. Had me thinking about an prohibition speakeasy. America's oldest brewery.
Enjoy
