Making homemade wine with bread yeast.?

someone told me that it was dangerous to use bread yeast instead of specialized yeast to make wine, and i was wondering if it actually is dangerous to do that.

i didn't even know there was a difference in bread yeast and wine yeast until now.

if it is dangerous, can you give me a site, also what are some side effects to using bread yeast instead of wine yeast if any.

he's only had it formenting for like a month or 2. And don't worry, were not selling it.

Yes bakers yeast is different than vintners or brewers yeast.
No it is not dangerous.

They will have tinformation-links for ingredient & equipment suppliers. You should get a book to better understand the process of wine making. Get on online or go to a local bookstore.
I do not agree with the chef fellow. I encourage you follow through with making your own wine. It is very realistic that you can become very proficient in the techniques and produces. And produce a wine that you are proud to serve or give as gift.


The thing with bakers yeast (which is closley related to vintners & brewers yeast) is that it will have a low attenuation (low alcohol producing ability) leaving your wine somewhat short of your goal. It will also leave the wine cloudy. Finally when it goes through autolysis (a horrible yeast death that burst the yeast open when it dies-LOL) it releases bitter vitamins (B) into the wine. The dead yeast must be filtered as it is now food for spoilage organisms.
In contrast a vintners (wine) yeast is much better suited to producing the alcohol and flavors that have become apperciated in wine.
