Anyone ever have beer from 'The Beer Machine 2000'? Anyone own one and have comments about it?

A friend was given one of these a few years ago.
Apparently all you have to do is cook the wort a little and pour in the other ingredients. After a few weeks the beer is ready, put it into the 'fridge and drink.
The beer was only OK, not delicious and the cost of the contraption is equal to buying it in a pub, more expensive than Microbrews. To purchase the refill kit makes it just a little better.
I'd only recommend it only to a rich hobbyist!
