Tequila types and tastes

Tequila is famous around the world for its unique taste and bouquet and it is also the great mixer used in Tequila Sunrise and Margaritas, that have become two of the most popular cocktails ever.

There are four different categories of tequila: Blanco (silver), Reposado (rested), A?ejo (amber) and Joven (gold).

Blanco: Most white/silver tequilas are bottled directly after distillation or stored for 15 to 25 days in stainless steel tanks. Clear in color, these tequilas harbor the most intense agave flavor.

Reposado: "Rested" tequila is aged in wooden storage tanks or barrels for up to 11 months. From a light to medium golden hue, this tequila has a smooth taste and is a balance between the agave and the oak flavors in the wood.

A?ejo: This tequila must be aged in wooden barrels. Amber in color, this tequila is typically very smooth, complex and rich.

Joven: Usually unaged, gold tequilas derive their coloring from the addition of cane or caramel.
