Storing a Bordeaux?!

Question:

Storing a Bordeaux?

I have a bottle of Chateau Peyre-Lebade Rothschild 2002 Bordeaux. I want to hang on to it for awhile, and so I'm wondering if it's ok to store it in my fridge at a constant temperature, rather than just any old dark corner of my sun-facing, unair-conditioned apartment.

Answers:
The refrigerator is okay for storing wine for a few weeks, but after that it will dry out the cork, even with the bottle laying on its side. The way a standard fridge works, it tends to dehydrate the interior.

A dry cork will be bad news for your wine because air will be able to leak into the bottle and wine will be able to leak out.

Ideally, humidity should be greater than 60% for the cork to remain moist for long periods of aging.

If your apartment has a closet or some other enclosed space away from the sun, your wine might be better off there. If the temperature is warm but stable, your wine will be okay, but it will age faster than one that is stored at the optimal 55-57 degrees Farenheit.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!

It really needs to be stored in cellar temperture 55degree's. And you need to hold on to it Peye-Lebade Rothschild 2002 is to young to drink.

store it in the fridge for a bit, no longer than a few months...but try to find an alternative quickly. If you purchased this bottle with the intent of storing it, i highly recommend getting a small wine fridge (they come as small as a 6 bottle capacity at around $100). It is worth the expense, plus it'll encourage you to seek out a few other wines to set aside for special occasions. (by the way, wine should be stored at around 55-60 degrees F)
