What country invented the most different kinds of beers ?!

Question:

What country invented the most different kinds of beers ?

not like, th most amount of different brands, but different styles, like lager, dry beer, etc... styles not brands?

Answers:
German beer accounts for about 10% of the worldwide market, and German breweries employ about 65,000 people. There are about 1,200 breweries which manage to produce 5,000 to 6,000 varieties.

As far as styles, assuming with 6,000 varieties, most of them fit in a majority of the styles that are out there:

There are about 180 styles of beer in the world. Here are some from Germany not a complete list:

Weizenbier os Weissbeer - Weat beer
Kolsch - Type of Lager
Pils
Altbier - Brown Ale
Berliner Weisse - Dark yellow with a lightly sour tast.
Non-alcoholic beers
Maibock - a bock beer with extra hops added near the end of boiling.
Dollelbock - Extra strength bock beer
Eisbock
Kolsch
Marzen - One of the oldest styles
Schwarzbier - Means dark beer

Also the oldest brewery in Germany is in Munich, the Augustiner brewery, was founded in 1294.

Hope this helps.

When it comes to beers, Germany usually got there first. And if any neighbouring country got there first, Germany probably invaded it.

I would have to say Belgium for sheer diversity. Just about every town has their own brewery with a distinctly different flavor.

However, according to the BJCP guidelines, the most different categories and styles of beer belong to the UK and Ireland. The UK has 25 different styles of beer compared to Germany's 20.

If you say Germany to a Belgian, he will probably get mad or laugh. They claim to have the largest variety. They make cherry beer, strawberry beer, apricot beer, oak beer, besides the usual barley and wheat types.
I tasted their cherry beer. It is good. It is red, tastes of cherries, drinks like beer and has a foam like ordinary beer.

Sorry to all the German fans, but Belgium is the Disneyland of beer.

I think the question was about STYLES not brands.

Take a look at:

Brewers Association 2007 Beer Style Guidelines

I think I counted over 30 Styles from Germany
