What is the best Champagne for my engagement party?!

Question:

What is the best Champagne for my engagement party?

Louis Roederer Vintage or Dom perignon Vintage

Answers:
dom every time!

BoonesFarm

Neither. My choice would be Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin (orange label). It is a VERY good champagne from Reims (the heart of champagne country in France) and it earned a 95 rating from Wine Spectator magazine.

How good is it? Let me put it this way - in France, this is the champagne they buy for special occasions. Enough said.

Congratulations!

mmmm lambrusco...its soft yet strong.....everyone will love it...and i think its rather cheap.

I'd have to agree with Peter H. Vueve Clicqout is the way to go. A great Champagne at a much lower price.

If Price isn't an issue go with Dom.

I'm going to throw this out there in case you are interested: Although it seems that you are going for an expensive champagne, I strongly urge you to taste a glass of persecco before buying anything. Persecco is an Italian white sparkling wine that tastes EXACTLY like a fine champagne.

When my husband and I were married almost two years ago, we were on a budget but I did not want to skimp on the champagne (I love champagne, and don't drink any other kind of alcohol, so I considered the champagne my drink, so to speak). We were planning to buy Dom, and then a friend of mine bought us a bottle of persecco, chilled it, and . . . oh man! I instantly loved it better than any other champagne I've ever had. It is much less expensive than a traditional champagne, and so I insisted we buy the persecco for our wedding; nothing else will do from this point forward for me.

Try it. No one has to know. In fact, no one will know if you don't tell. I promise you will be satisfied. If you have the money for expensive champagne, you have the money to buy a bottle of persecco (go to your local liquor store and they can show you lots of different brands of persecco), chill it for you fiancee, and have her try. You will be a hero for finding the perfect champagne and for saving a bit of money that you'll then spend on her wedding gift!

Good Luck and congrats!

I'd go with Roederer. I think Dom is over-rated. (And to be quite honest, I hated the bottle of Dom I had, I think the wine was corked.)

For an alternative, you can't go wrong with Mumms! And it only runs about $19-$25. I like the demi-sec. Another pretty good one is Iron Horse Wedding Cuvee. About $50 and very appropriate for the occasion. Congrats!

I would go with Dom...the old stand by. But if you want something spectacular go with Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame. It's about the same cost as Dom and tastes better.

Try Costco for your champagne purchase...they have great prices.

Crystal

Bollinger special cuvee ....almost dom like but half the price, also ruinart is a fantastic champagne for the money , but if you want to choose between the choices you listed go with dom

Only you know the answer to this question because only you know your guests. Will they all really appreciate and want champagne or is it just that you think you should have it because you are having a wedding? I would e mail all of the guests with your question and I'd bet you'd get a better answer than anyone here can do for your situation. You might find out that the best thing would just to be a nice open bar with variety for everyone to be pleased. The toast at the reception is an entirely different story. That should be your favorite!
