When a drink has 4% alcohol is that 4% of the total amount or ?

I dont quite understand how it works how many units is in a litre of alcohol if its 4%

on thin ice i under stand what 4% is i simply dont know how many unit is in this amount


Answers:

It means 4% of the total volume is ethanol (alcohol)

One unit is 10mg pure ethanol

The formula is:

total units = V(total) x ABV/100 x 0.1

for 1 unit the formula for V is

V = 10*100/ABV

note V is in ml and for ABV ignore the % sign
