What to look for in a wine decanter?!

Question:

What to look for in a wine decanter?

What should I look for when buying a wine decanter? I've seen them ranging from $30 up to several hundred dollars. Some come with funnels, some say that they splay the wine, some have stoppers, some have vacuums, name brands, no name brands. It's all really confusing.

I think that a funnel is a good thing in case there's any sediment in the wine. Is the funnel important? I also see that many places sell the funnel separately if it doesn't come with the decanter purchase.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

regards,
mari

A wine decanter should have a wide base that narrows into the neck that flairs out at the top. A wine decanter does not have a stopper...those are for liquor. A funnel is a good idea 1) in case there is sediment - you will need a screen with it and 2) the funnel will aerate the wine which will make it taste better.

Buy a glass decanter...I've seen them for about $25 at bed bath and beyond. Go to www.iwawine.com. They have great wine accessories.
