I am a novice cook. simplicity works best.

Answers:
Very slow and over low heat as they dry out fast. Good to cook them in some Au Jus as well, you can make some by add water to beef bouillon cubes.

raw

my uncle always put them on the barbecue with some water soaked hickory in there salt pepper and a touch of garlic powder on the steaks - yum yum !serve with fries and salad

take to local butcher shop and have cubed . go back home soak in milk & lemon juice over night . take out & salt & pepper to taste folur and fry until done . make brown gravy with flour & cooking oil .put steak in crock pot &pour gravy over it let simmer on low for 6 or 7 hours

At my house so we could enjoy them with the best of beers or iced tea or wine. Oh, you asked how, not where. Sorry. I just got lost in the tantalizing effects of thinking of elk steaks. Maybe you'd better read other answers since I'm no good at cooking at all. God Bless you.

You have a bunch of different options on what to cook them with and how, I would suggest trying to panfry them. This would probably be the easiest way of checking on how done they are. The most important thing that I wanted to tell you is that you should not cook them more done than medium-rare.

2 cans of mushroom soup.
1 cup of white wine.
3 cloves of fresh garlic cut up fine.
2 cups of sliced fresh mushrooms.
1 small onion cut in small pieces.
2 slices of bacon cut in small pieces.
salt and pepper to taste.
Put bacon in hot pan and when almost done put onion and garlic in pan and cook for 1 minute stirring the whole time.
Take a slow cooker and put in all ingredients and make sure to get all the little pieces out of the bacon pan, that's the flavor. Stir well and then ad elk steaks and make sure to cover with sauce. Set cooker on low and let them cook all day at least six hours. Serve over Mashed potatoes, rice, polenta, or noodles what ever you like best. GOOD LUCK

If they are like beef steaks salt and pepper them. Put a little olive oil don in the pan salt and pepper to taste and cook according to doneness. What does elk taste like?

Deer and elk meat is generally dryer than beef so brown them in your frying pan then add a little water, cover and simmer them until just past pink inside. Don't let them dry out and do not overcook. You can then make gravy from the leavenings in the pan. Delicious.
