Why do people drink alcohol even though it is bitter and not appealing to most?

Actually, i know a LOT of people who actually enjoy the taste of alcohol. And its not just beer, vodka is tastless and you can add fruity taste, and wine can be delicious underthe right circumstances. But I dont like the taste of beer or most alcohols, however, I drink to have fun with some of my friends at parties, i drink because it can numb things, and its associated with a view of wild fun so drinking, even just in your livin room, can be a little enticing.
