I opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate...?!

Question:

I opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate...?

i was celebrating an end of a relationship by myself and only had about 2 glasses...how can i close the bottle back up? the cork doesn't fit and its too late to go to the store to get a special pressurised resealing cork...

Answers:
You already know the answer. To keep sparkling wine, you need one of those special springy resealing cork things. Since it's too late to get one of those, there's nothing to do but drink it. (Darn!)

Finish the bottle! Its not to much and it will help you sleep

I have never tasted champagne. I'd love to drink one day

Do you have a regular wine cork? Try putting that in there and then sealing with plastic wrap then aluminum foil even, anything to keep the air out. then go get the right cork tomorrow.

I've actually done that before... I have managed to manipulate the cork back in..... and the last time I couldn't so I just shaved it down a little.

cut the cork a little until it fits then wrap it with cling wrap

you should really finish the bottle once it's opened, unless you want it to taste like cheap fizzy plonk when you go back to it

that is criminal! not legal act to do. opened bottle means drink up, or you might give it to the one next door, or the drunk down the street, but save it? never my friend! peace and love from Norway, cheers

Moisten the cork put it in the freezer for a few and it just might fit.

You've got two options when it comes to an open bottle of champagne.

The first is to simply finish it which is not always possible so it leads us to the next point.

Either use an old cork from a wine bottle, or get yourself one of those bottle stoppers with the expandable rubber bit on them. Put the bottle back in the fridge immediately and drink it by the next day at the latest. It will have lost a little carbonation but won't be too flat. By the third day however it will have gone flat regardless of what you did to save it.
