Does beer from aluminum cans taste worse than bottled beer?
In Canada, we drink beer almost exclusively out of bottles, because we think that beer from aluminum cans taste worse. We also have an excellent beer bottle return policy, with at least 95% of bottles returned to the beer store. I am interested in buying imported beers (ie. Heineken, Pilsner Urquell) in 500ml cans because they can be purchased more cheaply than bottled beer (0.4 cents per ml vs. .64 cents per ml)/ I am convinced they do not taste as good, though this may have more to do with my perception of canned beer as worse and freshness.

Getting the best taste has a lot to do with the type of beer you're talking about. Personally I think most Pilsners taste best if they are well aerated so whether you buy in a can or bottle dosn't matter. Just pour the beer dirrectly into the center of a clean glass and let it bubble a little. (The folks at the Budweiser brewery say the same thing). The opposite is true of browns and ales - they seem best right out of the bottle or poured down the side of a glass so they don't bubble mush at all. The only other difference I see between cans and bottles is that if you have them stored for a very long time sometimes beer straight out of the can will have a slightly metalic taste. But if you plan to drink them within a couple of months, and don't mind using a glass... I'd say the cheaper cans are the way to go! Good Luck!
