This question is about frozen lemonade.?!

Question:

This question is about frozen lemonade.?

The other day my husband and I stopped for Del's Lemonade... I had experienced what I believed to be brain freeze which has happened on several occasions when eating icecream. After the second sip of lemonade that is when I experienced a strong sense of brain freeze which traveled down my spine and was quite uncomfortable. This lasted for about maybe a couple of minutes.....Only to happen again. Would or could anyone shed some light on this? I would greatly appreciate your insight.

Thank You,
Angel

Answers:
"Brain freeze" is the pain sometimes inflicted by devouring something cold like ice cream or a cold beverage, often very quickly.

The reaction is (obviously) triggered by the cold ice cream or beverage; coming into contact with the roof of the mouth. It triggers nerves that give the brain the impression of a very cold environment. To heat up the brain again, blood vessels start to swell, which causes the headache-like pain for approximately 30 seconds.

The temperature change in the roof of the mouth has to be rather drastic; this is why brain freeze often occurs on warm days.

The pain can be relieved by putting the tongue to the roof of the mouth, which logically will heat it up.

Usually that happens if you drink it too fast!

It happens when something cold touches the roof of your mouth. Less than 1/3 of the population get brain freeze. Usually it only lasts a few seconds to a minute, but rarely it can last about 5 minutes. Depending on the severity, it can travel to surrounding areas, but I have never heard of back pain. Must have been COLD! To relieve it, try drinking room temp water or lick the roof of your mouth with your tounge.
