Six wines ...?!

Question:

Six wines ...?

My new place has a cabinet set with shelves built in for six bottles of wine. What are some good choices? Is there a "must have" red or white? I'm more interested in taste and quality than anything else (and I don't want to pay more than ~ $20/bottle).

Answers:

It really depends if you like sweeter wine or dry wine.

Reisling is the sweetest of the wine. I'd suggest Starling Castle, which is a white from Germany. Everyone I know who has tried it, loves it.

A good semi dry white wine would be Good Pinot Grigio from Italy. Yes, that is really the name, and yes, it is actually very good.

For a good red that won't break your bank, grab a bottle of Australian wine called Yellow Tail. Go with either the merlot or the cabernet savignon. The merlot being sweeter and the cabernet being dry.

A good middle of the road California wine would be something from Robert Mondavi. Most of his wines are good, so it's really up to you to decide if you want a sweeter or drier wine.

Also, we just got a new wine in called The Big Red Monster. It sounds weird and the label looks like a 1940s movie poster, but it is a very good meritage, which is a blend. It's not overly flavorful or dry, but it is very smooth.
