What do I need to buy to start making my own beer?!
What do I need to buy to start making my own beer?
I live near a store that sells all the equipment, so I could just ask them, but I would like to know before so I am not talked into anything I don't need. I just want to be able to make a few batches of home made brew. What items will I need, and how much is it going to cost?

This is a very fun and rewarding hobby, but it does take patience, preparation, and a very keen interest in appropriately sanitizing all of your equipment. Any contamination could produce "off" flavors in your finished product. That having been said, a good starter kit should include the following:
6 gallon plastic fermentor (bucket)
Gasketed lid for fermentor
6 gallon bottling bucket w/ spigot (for bottling process)
Hydrometer (to test progress of fermentation)
Airlock and stopper (allows gases out but not in)
Bottle filler
Racking cane (to mix ingredients well)
Tubing (for bottling process)
Bottle brush (to sanitize bottles)
Cleaning agent (one that leaves zero residue)
Bottle caps
Bottle capper
Additionally, you will need a good book of recipes (Michael Jackson, the Beer Hunter has a great one), bottles, and the ingredients required for the first recipe you wish to make, which will be some or most of the following:
Malt extract (in cans)
Hops (plugs, pellets, or whole)
Yeast (dried or live)
Distilled water (makes a difference!)
Karageenan (unclouds beer during fermentation)
Corn sugar (added during bottling process to create carbonation)
Happy brewing!
It will cost about over 2 thousand G's but i mean yah know don't sweat it we'll okay sweat it because it actually will ocst more than that and sorry but i don't know what you'll need!
invest in a mr beer kit, my husband loves it.
about $40.00 for 2 gallons
Why don't you just get a beer making kit. It will have everything you need in the kit. This way you'll get the experience and you'll know for the future what you'll need if you ever want to go out and buy it all yourself.
