You have to be 18 to serve alcohol. You also have to go to certification class to get a licence to serve, that protects the establishment in case you continue to serve someone that is intoxicated and a accident happens. It is this way in Texas. The class touches on a variety of subjects that will help you.

Source(s):
Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. It is Alcoholic not Alcohol.

I started when I lived in MA, and it was 18, I think that's right

he's right - I start bartending and serving in PA at 18. Still 21 to drink it thought! Never understood that one. Why would you need a license? Are you looking to buy a bar?

You have to be 18 to be a bartender. (But 21 to drink, does that make sense?)

No license needed.
