Pick up brand name guidebook and either skim it for good websites or buy it. They will have sections for activities and nightlife and are seriously worth the investment unless anyone comes up with something other than drink in the drinks section.

If you're 18, you just gotta enjoy the nightlife! Avoid crappy bars. You're presumably going to Dublin. If so, check out Voodoo Lounge, The Lower Deck, Whelan's, Doran's. There are usually pretty good bands playing in any of those pubs. Sit back, gulp your Guiness, ask the rather merry looking group of students sitting next to you to teach you some Irish, and enjoy!
