Is Syrah a good wine?!

Question:

Is Syrah a good wine?

Answers:
Syrah is definitely a "good" wine. As with all wines, some wineries produce a better Syrah than others. Syrah is a hearty red wine noted for its complexity of aromas and flavors including raspberry, plum, smoke, and white pepper. It is a dark red wine, sometimes almost black in color. This wine is also called Shiraz.

Depends on if you like reds.

I like Australian Syrah or Shiraz, they are full bodied and go with red meat and BBQ, there also a good sipping wine and can be aged nicely.

I am a former chef, and was a member of the French Wine Society in Toronto Canada for some years, try a few and find one your fond of, they are not expensive, but can be pricey depending on the vintage.

It really depends on you and what you prefer. Give it a try!

Syrah is actually another name for Shiraz, in case you didn't know. It's a chocolatey, velvety, plummy red which is quite spicy. It's easier to drink when mixed with other grape varieties, as it's very rich and "full on". Try Shiraz mataro, which is nice and smooth.

If it's from France it's Syrah, from Australia-Shiraz. They are fantastic wines if you like reds however as with all wines, some are good, great, or horrible. It all depends on you. Don't ever be swayed by wine snobbery, it's about what your taste buds like and everyone's are different. Never fall into the it's more expensive therefore better trap and don't let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn't like whether it's a $200 bottle or a twist off of Boone's farm strawberry hill.

I worked in the restaurant industry for years. If it was a wine we served by the glass, as a bartender I always recommended someone ask for just a taste to see if it was suitable. That way you aren't stuck with a whole glass or bottle of something you don't like (if you are a nice person and don't send it back) and I didn't have to throw away a full glass of wine. I don't suggest you try and get a free wine tasting this way as it would be very rude, but if you are genuinely interested in trying something to see if you would like a glass or a bottle for the table, it's perfectly acceptable. I requested all the servers do the same since it cut back on waste AND we had much happier guests! So find someplace that has syrah and give it a try!

Try a bottle of 1990 E Guigal "La Landonne" Cote-Rotie, it is absolutely phenomenal syrah. Then decide for yourself
