Why no alcohol while on antibioctics???!

Question:

Why no alcohol while on antibioctics???

Answers:
Alcohol can affect the absorption rate for the antibiotics.

Cause the doctor said so, and the doctor knows best!

do you want to explode? jk.............. i have no clue but if it says not to then dont!!

Alcohol negates the effect of antibiotics...not sure of the science behind it tho.

Because it intensifies the action of the medicine and you could fall asleep or even go into a coma, overdose!!!. Don't do it it is never worth it.

You are already ill and alcohol consumption may slow your healing. Sometimes the combo of alcohol and antibiotics can cause pretty bad nausea and if you vomit up the drug, it isn't doing you any good. However, if you have a glass of wine a day, it is a non-problem.

alcohol kills the effect of antibiotics alcohol can also change some meds so they don't work the way they are supposed to
korkie

Ah poppycock, I LOVE BOOZE! But seriously, it can keep them from being effective in some cases, not all.

Its just makes you loose the effects of the antibiotics, so then theres no point in taking them, it sucks so when you have to take them you just have to quit for the time being lol.

There are several reasons. Alcohol combined with certain antibiotics appear to accelerate alcohol-caused liver damage. Alcohol also requires metabolism by the liver and so does antibiotic. This means that alcohol may slow down the removal of the antibiotic from your system, which can lead to a build up of the antibiotic and an overdose. Alcohol can make the stomach lining more permiable to toxins which could make symptoms worse. Lastly, it is possible for some antibiotics to react chemically with alcohol.
