Could I be an alcoholic if...?
most of my aunts aunts and uncles are? I don't drink everyday but most of the time I want to and I do drink whenever I can. I called an AA place last night and was told that just for calling means that I probably am an alcoholic. Is she right am I an alcoholic for thinking about drinking everyday? She wants me to go to a meeting or something but I don't want to go if I'm not an alcoholic and if I am an alcoholic I'm scared to go cuz I'm scared that if I go it will mean that I'm not normal.

Thinking about something all the time would make it at least an obsession. This certainly doesn't mean you're not "normal". I would recommend that you find someone to talk with one-on-one if you're uncomfortable with the group environment of AA. Please do something if you feel that you may have an issue, I've seen far too many people that wish they would have done something about their problem before they lost everything because of it. One last thing, NEVER drive drunk, a driver under the influence nearly killed my step-daughter and this is unforgivable.
