I have never played before and I going to a party friday night.

There are the general rules of the game, but sometimes groups of friends or just regions of the country in general will alter the game or add rules for fun. Kate is absolutely right... Even if you look up the general rules there are always house rules... Like getting shutout and having to streak nude around the house or something equally ridiculous.
