Wine to try in Italy?!

Question:

Wine to try in Italy?

I am going to Rome in a few weeks and would like some suggestions on both red and white wines to try when I am there....preferably choices that are not available or rare in the US

Answers:
If you're in Italy, just try the various wines they have at nice restaurants. Here in the U.S. they serve swill with your meal, but in Italy they actually care. Pretty much everything there will be unavailable here.

Be sure to try some Ferrari Brut sparkling wine. It's only 20 Euros and it's heavenly.

Ask what are local wines and try those.
In Europe wines are not named for the grape varietal, rather the region the wine comes from. You will not find Merlot, Cabernet or Sauvignon Blanc as they do not exist by name.
Be experimental and enjoy.

Go Local

In Tuscany do Chianti
In Veneto do Amarone
In Piedmonte do Barolo
In Emilia Romana do Gutturnio

Chianti, Marsala, or Pinot Grigio.
