Buying champagne glasses?!
Buying champagne glasses?
Does anyone know where I can buy old fashioned flat champagne glasses (as opposed to flutes). I think they look ace but I can't find them anywhere.
Answers:
Those glasses are a travesty to champagne because they let all the fizz out of the wine. They came up with that design during Victorian times because with less fizz came less burping and this design satisfied their sensibilities.
Champagne flutes are designed to concentrate the bouquet of the champagne and at the same time preserve the bubbles as long as possible.

You may have to try Ebay, if you can't find it in stores. My set is 1920's antique I inherited from my grandmother. Perhaps someone has something like that they want to sell.
Did someone mention Champagne darling!!!!!!
The problem with the flat champagne glasses is that they cause the champagne to go flat...hence the reason you cannot find them anywhere. Altho very "ace" looking if you want to enjoy your champagne in all it's glory find a beautiful flute. Your friends will appreciate this more than wondering why your champagne is always flat.

Look on E-Bay- they are always available there.
It is true that those glasses make Champagne go flat faster, but they also don't hold much and they can double as an ice cream dish.
Google for "champagne coupe". The style you're looking for are coupes.
those glasses, while beautiful, are the completely wrong thing to server bubbly in. The wide low shape make the bubbles dissapate really fast. The taller and more narrow the glass, the longer the bubbles last.
Sometimes you can find glasses like these at your local second hand stores. I look on occassion and also have purchased a few. Happy Hunting!
