Good desert wine to sip on?!

Question:

Good desert wine to sip on?

know of any??? i like a stella rosa and cardinale... something like that but not as sweet i guess would be nice..

Answers:
I know you asked for something not too sweet, but it's kind of hard to gauge HOW sweet is TOO sweet by your standards unless you try it out. Anyway, the dessert wines that I like are:

1. Moscato d'Asti (an Italian dessert wine, try a few brands and see which one you like)

2. Try a French dessert wine (Jurancon is a region in France where they produce a lot of dessert wines). The top estates in Alsace and Sauternes are also known for their dessert wines.

3. A good late-harvest Riesling from Germany also makes a great dessert wine.

As for specific suggestions may I recommend:

1. Rinaldi "Bug Juice" Moscato d'Asti (Italian. Lightly sweet, crisp, refreshing)

2. Michele Chiarlo "Nivole" Moscato d'Asti (Italian. Lightly sweet, lightly effervescent)

3. Essencia Orange Muscat (from California. An interesting combination of richness offset by delicate sweetness and crispness. A great white wine for chocolate.)

4. Elysium Black Muscat (California. Nicely balanced sweetness. Good with chocolate desserts)

5. Chateau de la Chartreuse (French. Very light, crisp clean sweetness)

6. For German Rieslings look for labels such as, Auslese, Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese. However, if you select Auslese, make sure it doesn't also say Trocken or Halbtrocken because it would mean that it's NOT a dessert wine. Trockenbeerenauslese is the richest out of the three. Eiswein is also good. 4 g of sugar will JUST register on your palate. 35-50 g of sugar qualifies the wine as lightly sweet. for a late-harvest riesling, 50-80g of sugar is appropriate, and depending on how sweet your dessert is, balance it out with a late-harvest riesling on the lighter or heavier side.

Have fun wine tasting!! Makes me want to go out and buy 10 bottles!

Arbor Mist, any flavor!

Try an ice wine. It is sweet but very good cold

any port is a dessert wine also apertiffs and cordials like creme de menthe ,creme de cocoa ,baileys, godiva chocolate liquer are all proper choices with dessert.

Zinfindel in Strawberry, Raspberry, White etc. They're all good dessert wines.

I like tawny port. It's nutty & carmely & smooth. Mmmm. Sounds good right about now. :)

Dessert wines are usually pretty sweet. If you don't want sweet, then perhaps a port or a sherry?

I've been drinking the
Dow's 10 year Tawny port.
It's nice, clean, and nutty tasting. The 20 year is even better (but much pricier).

Also, look at
Alameda Cream Sherry
and
Lustau Solera Reserva Dry Amontillado Los Arcos
Both are fantastic yet inexpensive sipping "wines".

For beginners, one of the most readily available dessert style wines is the
Martin & Weyrich Moscato Allegro
It's in the tall skinny bottle that looks kind of like a galliano bottle. It's sweet, but I don't know how sweet it is compared to what you are drinking now. It's usually under $15, so it can't hurt to try a bottle.

King Estate has their Vin Glace that is also quite nice. Again, it's sweet, but it's not sticky sweet.

I hope this helps.

Try to find a good show mead(honey wine). Available sparkling or still. If you don't want anything too sweet try a medium to medium dry mead. You get the honey flavor without so much of the sweet. The very sweet meads are great sprinkled over vanilla ice cream.
