Why is drinking alcohol such a big deal in America?
I've lived in several countries and am amazed how big of a deal alcohol consumption is in the United States. I mean you can buy a gun at 18 but cannot drink until age 21??? When you buy a beer in a convenience store they cover it in a brown paper bag so the police don't catch you??? People in Europe go to lunch and have a beer - yet people in the US go to lunch and have a Diet Coke or Ice Tea..............

I've been drinking alcohol since I was 13 or 14. I remember having a "Screwdriver" (Vodka & Orange) with my parents in a restaurant at 14; it was just not an issue - however, this did not take place in the States.
