The active ingredient in marijuana, THC, activates certain receptors in the brain that trigger cravings for foods high in sugar and fat. I think the receptors are in the vental tegmental area (VTA) and/or the locus ceruleus. They are related to the 'reward" center of the brain. Alcohol can also stimulate appetite in small amounts.

Because they smoke weed! Marijuana gives the munchies

Gotta go with weed on this one. Or pretty much most drugs. They just tend to have this as a side effect (other than loss of brain cells and addiction.)
