Why did bottle beer start to freeze after opening as liquid from the freezer it continued to freeze whilst out!

Question:

Why did bottle beer start to freeze after opening as liquid from the freezer it continued to freeze whilst out

It was totally liquid on opening and just a few seconds after opening the surface froze pushing up and out of the bottle in a tube of ice the froze downwards.???

Answers:

Yes the pressure inside the bottle will cause the freezing point to drop, but the alcohol in the beer will cause the freezing point to lower even further.

What happens is that you have chilled the beer below it's freezing point, but not enough so that ice crystals have started to form. Ice crystals need something to form around, it's called nucleation. If you were to leave the bottle unopened and simply tap the side of it, it would start to freeze. What happens when you open it, the CO2 suspended in the beer is released and starts floating to the top, this provides a nucleation point for the ice crystals and viola, you've got frozen beer.
