How would you define a great bottle of 5 star wine?!

Question:

How would you define a great bottle of 5 star wine?

An elegant, fruit filled Carbernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Gamay, Petit Sirah, Pinot Noir(red/white), Zinfandel ... That would be anyone's gateaway choice... few minutes of relaxation!

What is the Art of Wine? What is your combination? What is your favorite place to relax yourself in life?

Answers:

A 5-star wine is a wine rated by some wine "expert". That is not a reflection of what a great wine might be in YOUR personal opinion.

Having been a wine drinker for years and a serious collector, I have learned to see how these wine "expert" rate wines. Sometimes I agree, sometimes I don't. However, seeing their opinion helps me decide what wine I might want to try. That is not a reflection of what a good wine might be.

My feeling about wine is that it is something to share with friends. It is something that we have a passion about and can have with our food. A good wine is something that taste good to our palate and have good company. Even with my large collection at home, I have a rule in my house - I do not open any new bottle of wine to drink when I am alone. When I am with company, I open bottles after bottles.

My favorite art of wine is to experiment various wine with various food. That is the reason I host a monthly wine tasting dinner. My criteria is $50 bottles or greater in retail cost, so we can have a standard, at least in price. With that, we drink 20-30 different wines and learn what each of us might like or hate about different wine, and that is something my group look forward to each month. We sometimes change venue, from Italian food to American to Indian to Mexican to Chinese. It is the excitement of trying something different that bring us together every month.

As for our little piece of heaven, Bay area is my all time favorite. To me, there is nothing more beautiful than San Francisco and Napa area. To wake up to 50-60 degree weather, walk out for great food and great wines, in front of some of the most amazing sceneries in the world. Then, 1 hour away and we are at the most wonderful rural area in the United States, with production of the best wines in the world. To go to Napa and to wine tasting by winery hopping and enjoying the atmosphere is my sabatical from the crazy world, and I look forward to it at least twice a year.
