Quality of Wine Sold in English stores?!

Question:

Quality of Wine Sold in English stores?

Is it true that the stuff sold in England is of a much lower quality than that sold in France?

I am not comparing Wine produced in England with Wine produced in France, I am comparing French wine sold in England with French wine sold in France.

Answers:
I'd say the opposite.

The UK wine buyers are some of the best there are. Any wines they import must compete with the best of the rest of the world -- Australia, California, Italy etc etc. They don't have to buy French, and they definitely don't import poor quality French wines.

Whereas most French wine stores have little non-French wine and the locals are used only to local wines, and are not looking to buy imports.

French wine stores have many wines that are- frankly - not of world quality. Basically, they have the stuff that the French couldn't export.

No, it's one and the same. Have you noticed on holiday you drink a lovely bottle of plonk as the sunsets and you get home and buy the same bottle and it tastes nothing like it?
Same wine different circumstances!

It's the same. But you could get a bottle of wine cheaper in France than in England so for the price you are paying, yes it's better. This is because most of England's wine is imported.

Depends how much you are willing to pay. France has lost it at the moment to South America, Australia and Iberia. UK wine is very good, but pricey.
