Restaurants only charge to open a bottle of wine if it is a bottle that you brought in from outside. They don't charge anything for their own stock. I'm pretty sure the reason they charge corkage for external wines is the cost helps cover their liquor license.

Lol now that's funny. Rip off merchants.

What's corkage? Obviously something is lost in translation. I've never paid corkage. It's amazing to me that there is a tax our state legislators have not thought of placing on us!

Purchase the wine from the Restaurant and they will not charge corkage.

Get wine with twist off caps, Problem Solved,

wine becomes more tasty and more valuable as time passes so if u result them to open the wine they want u to pay the price. also if a wine opened it can not be stored anymore because oxygen oxydize the alcohol makes the wine something like vinegar :)

I doubt that many restaurants who charge a corkage fee would serve screw cap wine! If they do, wouldn't that be a "screwage" fee?

you shouldn't be charged a corkage fee unless you are bringing your own bottle of wine.
