Pubs in america?!

Question:

Pubs in america?

hey i know its a really random and stupid question but do they have pubs in america? our they the same as the ones you get here in britain? any other info would be great!

Answers:
Most are bars in the form of "sports bars." In many bigger cities you'll find more traditional pubs like you'd see in Britain and Ireland, even German type places... etc etc. My personal favorite are bars around beaches. Its always nice to have a beer while listening to the ocean in the background.

Bonafide alcoholic.

They have "bars" in America. Small town bars are like the English pubs where local people socialize.

Yes and no. We have bars which serve alchohol and serve as gathering places. You have to be over 21 to drink here, and it is enforced (the bars check your driver's licence and can refuse to serve you for pretty much any reason).

No, because the local bar is not the center of community life. Usually. Not in the way it is over there.

There are plenty of places that advertise as British-Style Pubs, though.

We have American bars, and we also have a number of English and Irish "style" pubs. There are quite a few of them in Santa Monica near where I live.

Austin, TX also has a few "pubs". Mostly Irish style, though.
