In your view, which country produces the best Cider, and which region of that country?

awwwdree - Cider didn't originate in the USA, it's been made a very long time... much longer than europeans have been in North America. Also, for Americans, I believe the correct term is Hard Cider for you.

I agree that 'White Cider' as they call it (eg. White lightening) is awful and not cider. It therefore shouldn't be included in this thread.

You can buy some decent smaller-brand ciders in the supermarket now, in my local supermarkets they have Westons Cider and some others from Somerset. It seems that all of my favourite ones come from Herefordshire.


Answers:

I'd be hard pressed to disagree with either Somerset, Herefordshire or Cornwall, South-West England in general, but I must also make a mention of Asturias, in Spain, where they also make excellent cider, which they bottle Champagne style with corks held on with wire.

This question made me think of that old Wurzels song "I am a cider drinker, I drinks it all of the day, ooah ooah ay, ooah ooah ay!!!
