How many times have you gotten drunk in college?!

Question:

How many times have you gotten drunk in college?

I'm going to be a sophomore in college. I never started drinking until 2nd semester of my freshmen year, which was this past January. However, in discussion with my mom, she was shocked to find out I'd been completely drunk 5 times. (She was only drunk twice in college.) I've always been the "good girl" but once I realized how much fun I was missing by not partying, I kind of have gotten into it. The only times I've gone out to parties and decided to drink, I've gotten drunk. There hasn't really been an in-between. I'm either drunk or sober. Am I setting myself up for becoming an alcoholic? Or is it natural for college kids to drink this much?

Answers:
I think you're at the age of exploration and finding your limits, so don't be too hard on yourself. But there are some things you should always keep in mind:
1 Imparment begins with the first drink. The first thing to go is your ability to reason, which is why you're going for another, than another, etc., and later questioning your ability to stay in control when your sober.
2 Despite it's legality, alcohol is a drug, and a serious one that can be fatal. Avoid shots - I know it's hard in such an environment - but too much too soon is very dangerous. A glass of water between drinks will keep you at a safer pace and help avoid hangovers. Try arriving late to parties since knowing when to leave early in such a haze can be out of the question. Hang out with groups of friends you trust, someone else may need to have your best interest in mind while you are impared.
3 Never, ever, ever drive when you've been drinking, or get into a car with someone who has. Your adult life is just starting, you don't need to deal with a DUI or worse.
4 A lot of people have a lot of fun totally sober.
5 Alcoholism is a genetic illness. Either you're wired for it or you're not, and nothing will change that. Though some who are not "true" alcoholics may become psychologically dependant. If you find you're becoming out of control, or continue to question your own behavoir, you may need to choose not to use alcohol.
Have fun, be careful, and find your boundries. Drinking in the environment you're in will be a battle against peer presure, which comes in many forms, some quite subtle. Be strong.

It is quite natural to drink that much during college, especially if you are at a large school, a drinking town, or are part of greek life.

You are only an acloholic when the alcohol starts affecting your daily life in negative ways, then you should stop and think about what you're doing to your life.

I lost count during my Junior year.

a lot

wow, you need to relax

i never really get drunk. it distracts me from my studies andohg,a; crap i spilled tequila on my laptop.

Never...NOT GOOD 4 U

I think u are starting a dangerous trend. I never considered drinking to be something cool. Think about the long term repercussions instead of trying to be with the in crowd but that's just my opinion. I wish u the best & i hope u dont get yourself hurt.

Zero.
I don't see the point in drinking to fit in. It seems a bit silly to me.

I had never even smelled alcohol before college. During my first week I started rushing a pharm. frat. and had my first taste of beer. While pledging we had several parties and I drank every weekend. When I drank I always got drunk. After I quit pledging I still drank every to every other weekend but that only lasted until the spring semester of my sophomore year when I met my fiance. Since he didn't drink I stopped as well because I only liked drinking when others were doing the same. My university was large and very much a college town. Don't feel bad for having fun. Its new to you and things have changed since your mother was in college. Just stay with people you trust and be careful.

I'm a college kid... an A's & B's college kid. I've been drunk too many times to count, and I'm not an alcoholic. You have nothing to worry about as long as you're in control. Relax & have fun, but be responsible!

YES IT IS NORMAL!! I DRANK PRETTY MUCH EVERYDAY DURING A TIME OR AT LEAST 4 TIMES A WEEK AND IT DOES NOT SET U UP 2 BE AN ALCOHOLIC ..MY DAD WOULD TELL ME DAT I WAS GONNA BE A DROPOUT AND ALL THAT CUZ I WAS DRINKIN TOO MUCH...WELL I WILL BE GRADUATING NEXT MAY WITH A DOUBLE MAJOR IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND PSYCHOLOGY AND A GPA OF 3.5 SO ITS ALL IN HOW MUCH CONTROL YOU HAVE OF YOUR LIFE...ENJOY IT TRUST ME IF U CAN HANDLE DRINKIN AND NOT LOSING FOCUS YOURE SET!

too many to count..

It is entirely possible to go out, party, drink a little, get a little spirited and not get drunk. You are setting yourself up to have unwanted sexual encounters or a DUI or to kill yourself or someone else.

Limit yourself to have enough to have fun but not enough to get drunk. It isn't pretty.

many is my answer! yes u are an alky, if you think about it and its natural for those who drink that much to drink that much... its called self control bud, dont let others control u
