How do you make a margarita?
Answers:
Joshua hit it. Although I DO put in some simple syrup. The Margarita mixes out there are SO bad, it's pathetic. It's not much more difficult to make a classic. So do yourself a favor and follow Josh's recipe.
2 parts fresh squeezed lime juice, 2 parts Grand Marnier or good high octane Triple Sec, 2 parts awesome tequila. Shake/stir in ice, pour into a glass with fresh ice or straight up and a salted rim on the glass - garnish with a lime. If its not sweet enough you can always add simple syrup to taste. I don't because the Grand Marnier is sweet enough for me.
Classic recipe - not the doctored up crap they serve at the chains or in some frozen icee machine.
A part could be the standard 1.5 oz shot or a cup - depending on how many you are serving.
Enjoy
3 cups water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup fresh squeezed lime juice
1/3 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
6 tablespoons triple sec
6 tablespoons gold tequila
2 teaspoons grated lime rind
additional sugar
Add water and sugar to a saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Pour mixture into a large bowl (one that will fit in your freezer).
Add in the lime juice, lemon juice, triple sec, tequila, and lime rind; stir to combine.
Cover and freeze for 8 hours.
Add frozen mixture to an electric blender or food processor and process until slushy.
Wet the rim of margarita glasses, then dip rims into sugar.
Spoon the slushy granita into the glasses.
Well the easiest way is to buy a pre-made mix. Otherwise, you need tequila, lime juice, sweet and sour, and triple sec. People use each of these ingredients in varying mixtures; it's really up to you and your tastes. One shot of tequila is usually good, use a small amount of lime juice and mix the rest to taste with more sweet and sour than triple sec.

Run a lemon slice around the rims of the glasses to dampen them; then dip them in a small plate of salt to coat.
Pour the margarita into the prepared glasses, and garnish with lemon and lime slices.
go to your local mexican restaurant and order one
See Mr Lucky's answer..He's on the case.
2 parts decent Tequila
1 part Cointreau (Triple Sec is the cheaparse, dumbed-down version)
and FRESH LIME juice.
If you're going to salt the rim do it first thing.. and keep it on the OUTSIDE of the glass (I invert the glass after rimming..oh yeah.. insert a finger...eerrghg.. and remove any crusty white bits on the inside)

1.5 oz sour mix (makes drink frothier)
