Why is a wine hangover worse than a beer hangover?!

Why is a wine hangover worse than a beer hangover?

Seems like a wine headache is much worse. People say alchohol is alchohol, so why are the hangovers different?

Well darling I love wine and I have learned over the years that one has to be very careful with the way they drink. There is more sugar in wine than straight alcohol. However many people have a reaction to cheaper wine because of the sulfates. The trick is to keep yourself hydrated. Wine will dehydrate the body quickly. I suggest drinking a glass of water for every glass of wine. If your headache persists you are probably one of those people that is affected by the sulfates. Good luck and as always have fun.

i have never had a hangover from wine, so i wouldnt know, but i dont think that they would be any different, i guess it all really just depends on how much you drink

It is because there is more sugar in wine than there is in beer.

it's the sugar. same thing happens if you mix alcohol with something sweet.

Well first off wine has a higher percentage of alcohol per volume. And cheap wine contains sulfites a sulfer compound used as a perservative. It is constantly argued that sulfites do not cause headaches. But of course winemakers push this belief... My opinion is that sulfites do cause headaches. I try to purchase wines that do not contain these chemicals. And I have noticed a difference. Or I drink less wine in one sitting if it does contain sulfites.

So it is a combination of things higher alcohol content per volume, sulfites, and lastly the ease of drinking. In some wine types one glass of wine can be equvilent to almost (3)12 oz beers.

I think it has something to do with the tanis.

I agree with the posters about the sugar and alcohol content...it could be the sulfates as well...I get a wicked hangover from red wine, the american kinds especially with a lot of sulfates...I get a hangover from Boone's and it is mostly sugar and sulfates, I think, not much alcohol involved there...

Hey! I do not know but im a big wine drinker....and the headaches can last up to 2 days! Makes me think twice about the vino but then as soon as i enter to pub...well thats out the window! i dont drink beer so i do not know about those hangovers! xx

Cheap wine contains a lot of biproducts of fermentation. Basically, a lot of the stuff is literally poisonous (moreso than alcohol) and your body takes a pounding if you drink too much.

Good quality wine, all beer and distilled spirits usually don't have that problem. Just stay away from cheap wine.

Hangovers ARE different. Most hard liquor is distilled which removes any impurities that can cause hangovers while beer and wine are not. If you get bad hangovers you should try this product called Revive by Fifth Element Labs. Most hangover "remedies" are merely calcium carbonate(Tums) and activated charcoal but this product has actually been proven to increase the enzyme in the liver that breaks down alcohol after you drink which drastically reduces hangover symptoms. Give it a shot, I swear by the stuff.

Irish is right. I haven't tried that product he/she is talking about, but it makes sense.
