Port is a type of wine that originated in the Douro region of Porttugal. Wine was fortified with brandy to give it a higher alchohol content to survive oversea voyages. The unexpected result was Port.

A sweeter wine port is generally served as an after dinner drink or with deserts. Typically there are three levels or port.
Ruby: young and red coloured Tawny: aged up to ten years a darker caramel colour and Tawny: aged for 20 years with a dark caramel colour and a smoky aroma with a taste of oak and roasted chocolate. Yummm!

DIFFERENT SPELLING.

Port is wine fortified with spirit and a lot stronger in alchohol

Port is a fortified wine. That is to say, the wine is stopped from fully fermenting by the addition of a quantity of spirit. Thus the port is sweeter becasuse of the unfermented fruit sugars and stronger because of the spirit. Wine is simply fermented grapejuice.

port is a type of wine that has been fortified ( spirits added before the fermentation process of wine is completed). the spirits stop the yeast action (yeast eats the natural sugars found in grapes) in the fermentation process and therefore ports are usually a bit sweeter

Port is sweet and has a higher alcohol content. It originates from Portugal, although it is made elsewhere, also.

port is 'fortified' and is made in Portugal.

every port is a wine, but not every wine is a port.
