Is this yeast starter okay?!

Question:

Is this yeast starter okay?

I made the starter in a sanitized 22 oz bottle. This is my first one and I want to make sure it's okay before I ruin 5 gallons of beer. 12-24 hours after starting it, there is some definite suspension, foam, and CO2, yet there is a lot of sediment also. Is this normal?

Answers:

The sediment is normal, that is the yeast/trub. Pour off the top liquid (beer) leaving a bit, swirl that around to get all the yeasties in suspension and pitch into your fermentor. Did you properly sanitize your bottle and boil your wort for at least 20 min? If not it could have an infection, although most likely not...
